Olympic Basketball Qualification Set to Begin in September

Qualification Process Underway for Paris 2024 Games

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has announced that the qualification process for the men's basketball tournament at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will begin in September 2022. A total of 24 national teams will compete in the FIBA Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, with the top four teams securing their spots in the final tournament.

First Round Complete, Four Teams Advance

The first round of the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournaments took place at the continental level in August 2023, with 40 countries participating. Four teams, including the United States, Spain, Australia, and France, secured their places in the final tournament based on their FIBA World Ranking.

The remaining 20 teams will be divided into four groups, with each group playing a round-robin tournament. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second round, which will be held in February 2024. The winners of the second round will join the four teams that have already qualified for the final tournament.

The final tournament will be held in June 2024, with 12 teams competing for the gold medal. Basketball is one of the most popular and anticipated competitions at the Olympic Games, and the qualification process is expected to be fiercely contested.
