Akron Protests Erupt After Release of Fatal Police Shooting Video

City on Edge as Fourth of July Celebrations Cancelled

Protesters Demand Justice for Jayland Walker

The city of Akron, Ohio, is on edge this Fourth of July, one week after the fatal police shooting of 25-year-old Jayland Walker. The Police Department released body camera footage of the shooting on July 3, 2022, setting off a number of protests in the city.

Following the release of the videos, hundreds of protesters marched in downtown Akron demanding justice for Mr. Walker. Protests went on for more than three days straight, and Akron officials announced that July 4 celebrations would be cancelled due to the shooting.

The videos show police officers firing dozens of rounds at Mr. Walker after he fled a traffic stop. Mr. Walker was unarmed at the time of the shooting.

The shooting has sparked outrage and calls for accountability. Eight Ohio officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, and the Ohio Attorney General's Office is investigating the incident.

The city of Akron is still reeling from the shooting. Residents are angry and demanding answers, and city officials are working to restore peace and order. The Fourth of July holiday is a time for celebration, but in Akron this year, it is a time of mourning and protest.
